|This close-up of Eta Carinae is an enlarged crop of the full color image. It displays the twin lobes of material that were cast off by this remarkable star during previous eruptions, that most astronomers believe, started in the mid-1800's. This picture was created by combining eight, fifteen minute exposures through an Astrodon hydrogen alpha filter with a (combined) 15 minute image exposed through an Astrodon SII filter.
